“Friends hold a mirror up to each other; through that mirror they can see each other in ways that would not otherwise be accessible to them, and it is this mirroring that helps them improve themselves as persons.”

"This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
 as a guide from beyond.”

The past few weeks have been spent working in Dallas’ concrete landscape. It’s hot. The lack of greenery turns the city into a giant easy-bake oven.

I miss the way you can feel the life in Austin. Like they built everything around the landscape, taking care not to disturb too much.

This city is still a scorched earth apocalypse dance party. All pretty lights and ugly intentions.

Self-help tip #34: Don’t like the way you look? Break all of your mirrors.
